Soxy Beast began its life in Melbourne Victoria in 2014. The concept was to create locally made socks, with local artists sharing their bold graphics on the textile, whilst giving back to the community. To date the company has raised funds for over thirty causes across Australia.
A different beast to many sock companies, the team produces an assortment of designs that are manufactured in Victoria and sent out to subscribers. Each subscriber receives information on the artist and also the charity that Soxy Beasts has contributed to that month.
The socks are made of a quality cotton and lycra blend, with a reinforced heel and toe (as well as a seamless toe) – which means super comfortable and superbly made.
Like many organisations even when stock levels are kept low, production is not always an exact science, so left with samples and incorrect designs and dye lots that don’t go to plan the company knew they needed to dispose of the waste responsibly.
And this is where TRA comes in. Wanting to work as sustainably as possible, Soxy Beast makes sure that their excess socks do not end up in landfill. What’s more they have been accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia. (ECA audits are carried out right through the company, to make sure that workers are paid correctly alongside receiving all their legal entitlements).
As we all know the textile industry within Australia went through heavy shutdowns in the 1980’s so we find Soxy Beasts inspiring as not only do they believe in fair employment, local production but they spread creativity, kindness and socks all over the land.
